Nicki Minaj was released after her arrest |
Nicki Minaj was released from custody on Saturday after being detained by Dutch authorities on suspicion of exporting soft drugs. The rapper, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, was traveling from Amsterdam to Manchester, England, for her "Pink Friday 2 World Tour" when the incident occurred. She was fined and allowed to continue her journey, police confirmed.
Minaj was expected to perform at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester on Saturday night, but the concert was postponed due to her detainment. Live Nation UK expressed disappointment and apologized for the inconvenience, assuring fans that their tickets would remain valid for the rescheduled show.
Although police did not officially identify the arrested individual, they confirmed that a 41-year-old American woman was detained at Schiphol Airport for possession of soft drugs. Minaj later confirmed the incident on social media, explaining that she spent 5-6 hours in a jail cell before her flight finally took off for Manchester.
Minaj expressed her apologies to her fans and mentioned potential rescheduled dates in June or July for the postponed concert. She also reassured fans that she would still perform the second Manchester show on Thursday and in Birmingham on Sunday. Additionally, she promised an added bonus for attendees of the rescheduled show to compensate for the disruption.
Earlier on Saturday, Nicki Minaj shared several posts on social media detailing her experience during the incident at the airport in the Netherlands. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Minaj is seen being informed by a man at the airport that her luggage needs to be searched. She questions why the search wasn't done before the luggage was loaded onto the plane, to which the man replies that a "random quick check" was performed but now they need to open the luggage.
In subsequent posts, Minaj expressed her belief that people were attempting to sabotage her tour. She described how her luggage was taken, and when she inquired about its whereabouts, she was told it was already on the plane, which she disputed as she hadn't handed over her bags. Minaj suggested that individuals were being paid to disrupt her tour due to its success and shared her suspicions about attempts to plant items in her luggage. She also mentioned that people who had previously been involved in financial misconduct related to her travel arrangements were behind these actions.
In her social media updates on Sunday, Minaj stated that she has video evidence of the encounter and that she would let her lawyers handle the situation. She expressed confidence that justice would prevail, invoking both legal action and divine intervention.
